Projects
We are currently developing several projects.
Meeting & Exchange platform:
In order to develop a convergence platform, we made an inventory of European actors involved in the biomimicry field. The current version of our database “Nature Inspires Sustainability in Europe” holds
more than 100 entries. Getting inspired by nature for sustainable innovations is
truly alive in Europe and generates new untapped fields of research.
The sustainability demand is very strong; universities, especially in
UK and Germany, have many projects and are looking for new avenues for
solutions. It is striking that key sustainability sectors are being
addressed in this manner.
Teaching
Since 2005, 5
of us followed various trainings given by our American inspirators, the Biomimicry Guild &
Institute. These meetings, together with our former experience in climate change & sustainability, have helped us to set up classes integrating biomimicry in its general environmental context. These classes have been given in various universities and colleges, directed
towards agricultural, civil & management engineers, business schools, etc, leading to the first discussions for establishing curricula. Since then, we have developed other specific expertise, especially around the teachings learned from ecosystems.
Outreach
Biomimicry as a theme continues to be welcomed in the media, and several newspapers as well as radio broadcating have requested interviews and information from Biomimicry Europa during the last months. We were also part of the current exhibition "Vegetal City" by Luc Schuiten at the "Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire" in Brussels".
